Military Service Counts

SECURE YOUR FUTURE WITH THE MOST POWERFUL "CORPORATION"
OF OUR TIME: THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Are you currently in or have you ever been in the military? This is a definite plus in your favor. Uncle Sam never forgets his nieces and nephews. I've met many local, state, and federal employees who had served either on active duty or in a reserve/guard unit. My old Air Force roommate was hired into a federal agency at a job fair. I was hired over the phone shortly after, due, in part, to his referral. The best part is that time served in the military counts toward time served in many government positions, which affects your pay, vacation, seniority, and retirement. Not only do honorably discharged veterans have a leg up in these areas, they also have other options for employment. These options are the VRA (Veterans Readjustment Appointment) program, the VEOA (Veterans Employment Opportunity Act) program, and several others. This program is very effective for veteran appointments to great positions. If you qualify, then your application will be placed in a totally separate pool. If you simultaneously apply the customary way, you will greatly increase your chances of obtaining a position. You are eligible for the VRA program if you served for a period of more than 180 days active duty, all or part of which occurred after August 4, 1964, and have other than a dishonorable discharge.
